French rightist leader Jean-Marie Le Pen and several members of his National Front party charged into a group of about 30 North African immigrants who taunted them at a wreath-laying ceremony at Chambery, in southeast France. Witnesses said there were scuffles during the brief incident before police stepped in. “It cannot be tolerated that foreigners have the audacity here in France to try and stop elected officials paying homage to their dead,” said Le Pen, a former paratrooper who is running for president in next year’s election on an anti-immigrant platform.
