The Insect War

Re “How the Bugs Finally Won” (by David DeVoss, Sept. 20): It is heartening that, after 22 years of failure with pesticide application, the Imperial Valley cotton growers are willing to attempt a more ecologically sensible approach to their problem with the pink bollworm. But are they really going to plant produce in that same soil that has been soaked for all these years with such burly sounding poison brews as Pounce, Ammo and Karate? The article serves as a nice reminder that we really don’t know about our food. Where does it come from and how was it grown? My choice to buy organic produce has been reinforced.
