A Different View of the Homeless

Share

The Westside Section coverage of the current Venice “homeless” problems are often distorted relative to the overall problem. The Westside Section seems to promote the belief that the “homeless” problem is comprised of individuals who are there by choice and desire to be a public nuisance.

During my 20 years of involvement in the Venice community, I have found your perception of the “homeless” population to be the rare exception and not the rule. The vast majority find themselves in a depleted condition because of a disability or unpredictable circumstances. I have come across several people who were at one time prominent in the newspaper business.

Catering to a vocal minority who are full of fear and misunderstandings is not only inflammatory to the problem but poor journalism.
