Micom Systems in Simi Valley reported that its second-quarter profit went up 34% from a year earlier to $3.5 million, rising 15 cents a share from $2.6 million. The maker of computer communications equipment attributed the increase to record sales of $52.8 million, up 9% from a year earlier.

For the six months ended Sept. 30, Micom’s profit increased 56% from a year earlier, to $6.4 million, or 36 cents a share, on revenue of $101.8 million. By comparison, Micom earned $4.1 million, or 23 cents a share, in the first six months of fiscal 1987 on revenue of $94.5 million.

The company attributed much of the increase to a division selling equipment that interconnects personal computers, which saw a revenue increase of 96%. It also reported that catalogue sales increased by 23%.
