San Diego
Four reports of purses stolen from vehicles over the weekend have been linked to a scam in which a man identifying himself as a police officer calls the owners’ homes to notify them that their purses have been found, San Diego Police Department spokesman Rick Carlson said Monday.
Carlson said the caller tells the women that he has notified bank officials, who in turn will be calling the women for information regarding their ATM cards. He said a woman who says she is from the bank then calls and asks for the password from the card in order to cancel it.
