South County : Developer Completes Work on El Toro Road
A half-mile, $3.8-million rebuilding segment of El Toro Road is scheduled to open Wednesday in the Portola Hills area of Trabuco Canyon.
Paid for by the Baldwin Co., one of the county’s major development firms, the segment replaces a winding, two-lane stretch of road that had been considered dangerous to both motorists and horseback riders in the area.
The project includes an underpass for equestrians and a bike trail. Company officials said the firm is also paying to restore the natural habitat in the area.
An opening ceremony is scheduled at 3 p.m. today at 19150 Ridgeline Road, Portola Hills. Company officials and Supervisor Gaddi H. Vasquez will attend.
During construction, a detour road was built, half of which has been saved for the equestrian and bike trail.
