HALLOWEEN TREATS LURE ARTSY SPIRITS : This Halloween, why stay home and answer doorbells? For thrills and chills, grab your Elvira wig and Dracula fangs and head for the nearest theater, movie house or music hangout. : MUSIC

For traditionalists, the Pacific Symphony’s Halloween effort includes Mussorgsky’s “Night on Bald Mountain” and Dukas’ “Sorcerer’s Apprentice,” both familiar from the film “Fantasia” and countless seasonal concerts. Children are invited to wear costumes to the performance Saturday morning at Orange County Performing Arts Center. The event is part of the “Mervyn’s Musical Mornings” series.

The Musical Heritage Orchestra takes a more gleeful, less ghoulish approach Saturday evening at the Biltmore Hotel. The gala dinner/concert, part of a three-day conference on the music history of Los Angeles, features music popular here in the 1890s. The orchestra will dress in period costume and the audience is encouraged to do so as well.

Friday at Pasadena City College Auditorium, however, the conference stresses the fright-night theme with a showing of the “Phantom of the Opera” film, accompanied by theater organist Gaylord Carter.

For those who like bite in their ballet, the California Ballet is producing the first performances of a full-length story ballet on “Dracula.” Paul Sanasardo dances the title role in Charles Bennett’s staging of the Bram Stoker classic, Friday and Saturday at Symphony Hall in San Diego. The audience is invited to come in costume.
