Two Stations Ban Singers’ Recordings

The recordings of Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Joni Mitchell have been stricken from the playing lists of two Inland Empire radio stations in protest against their appearance at Tuesday’s “Cowboys for Indians and Justice for Leonard Peltier” concert.

“By continuing to play (their) recordings, we are not only attacking the reputations of the two agents who died but slapping in the face every peace officer who daily puts on a badge and gun and goes out on the street and risks his life,” said Pat Michaels, president and general manager of 50,000-watt KQLH-FM, San Bernardino, and 5,000-watt KWRM, Corona/Riverside.

Michaels, who anticipates that the move “may hurt us,” said the songs will stay off the lists “as long as there is public association with (the singers) with this type of concert.”
