Local News in Brief : Dead Heat in Hotel Vote
A controversial proposal to build a hotel on the only vacant beachfront property in Hermosa Beach has suffered a major setback in a court ruling made public Thursday.
The 2nd District Court of Appeal ruled that City Councilman Tony DeBellis had voted at the wrong polling place in a 1985 referendum on the project and threw out his ballot. The result: 2,399 votes for the project, 2,399 against. The tie means the project is dead unless the state Supreme Court agrees to hear the case and overturns the appeal court.
