Misstatement Left Some in ‘Jeopardy’
It may have been an accidental misprint, but a statement attributed to me seriously jeopardized the political aspirations of several candidates running for City Council in Hermosa Beach.
The following statement was made by the Los Angeles Times in an article printed Oct. 25. “Planning Director Michael Schubach said the council and the commission approved the higher density in all but one case.”
This statement is incorrect. The City Council lowered the density in all but one case.
In the three years I have been planning director, the City Council and Planning Commission have continuously adopted ordinances which would directly and/or indirectly lower density, and improve the quality of development. In addition, height, setbacks, open space and parking requirements have been changed to improve the quality of development and to limit the intensity and density of development.
Anyone interested in this matter is invited to inspect the records in the Planning Department, City Hall, 1315 Valley Drive, Hermosa Beach.
MICHAEL SCHUBACH
Planning Director
