Antoine Predock of Albuquerque, N. M., has been selected in competition as the designer for a new classroom/laboratory/administration building at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

The selection marks the first time a major capital outlay project at any of the 19 campuses of the California State University system has been the subject of a design competition.

With an anticipated cost of about $24 million, the project represents the largest single construction expenditure in the history of the CSU. The proposed facility will contain a total of 182,218 gross square feet.

Of the 28 firms that participated in the international design competition, three were chosen to produce a design for the building. The finalists, in addition to Predock, were The Architects Collaborative of Cambridge, Mass., and Leason Pomeroy Associates of Los Angeles; each was awarded $25,000 to offset time and expenses.
