The Thousand Oaks city council has asked Courtly Homes of Beverly to reduce the number of homes on the 2,331-acre Dos Vientos Ranch project from a proposed 3,675 to no more than 2,075.

Thousand Oaks city planners, citing traffic problems and noise and air pollution effects on the environment, had previously recommended that the project be reduced to 1,600 homes.

Greg Smith, city senior planner, said the original plan called for six parks, three schools, a commercial center, a trail system and an equestrian center. The plan will now be downgraded to serve the smaller number of homes permitted.

The location of the project is north of Potrero Road and west of Lynn Road. The new plan is expected to be ready for the council’s consideration early this month.
