Escape a Success Until Driver Asks Directions of Police

IONIA, Mich. — A prison breakout ended today when a driver who was supposed to pick up the escapees got lost in heavy fog and asked police for directions, Ionia County sheriff’s deputies said.
Deputies stopped the motorist, whose name was not released, when they spotted his car about five miles east of the Michigan Reformatory, Deputy Kevin Ingram said.
A search of the car produced a slip of paper with an address, phone number and directions to a house. When the deputies called the home and asked who lived there, the person who answered said he would check.
“It was 1 a.m.,” said Deputy Joe Porta. “At that time of morning, you should know whose house you’re in.”
Deputies went to the home, only half a mile away, and arrested the motorist and the two escapees, one of whom was the motorist’s brother.
