Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Dispossessed Family of 12 Finds New Home

Share

Rosa Lopez and her 11 children, evicted from their two-bedroom home when they fell $7,000 in arrears on their mortgage payments, have found a new home, the family’s attorney said Monday.

Legal Aid Society attorney Crystal Sims said the family recently had found a home after living for a month in one room behind a downtown Santa Ana restaurant.

Lopez and her 11 children escaped an eviction bid by the city when they were cited for having too many people in her home in August. But she lost the house in early October to Amerimac Corp., which held the mortgage.

At the time of the eviction, the family’s sole income was $80 one of the children earned a week. Lopez said her husband disappeared two years ago, putting the family in serious financial problems.

Sims said the family could now afford to pay rent at their new residence, because several of Lopez’s children have found jobs. The lawyer would not reveal the location of the family’s new home in Santa Ana.
