General Electric Co. has notified the Pentagon of accounting irregularities in contracts involving nuclear missiles. The Philadelphia Inquirer, quoting federal sources it did not identify, said Joseph Giacoponello, general manager of the company’s re-entry systems operations, and Joseph Garrity, manager of programs, accounting and cost estimating for the division, were forced to resign effective last week. Two other key employees of the Philadelphia operation may have been forced to resign, the newspaper said. GE declined to identify the ousted employees and the number of workers directly involved in the contract problems and did not return phone calls, the newspaper said.
