Local News in Brief : 2 Teens Held in Robbery

Manhattan Beach police arrested two teen-aged boys who allegedly used a starter’s pistol to steal a car and a purse from a 24-year-old woman who was house-sitting at an expensive beach home.

The youths, ages 15 and 17, are being held at Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall in Downey on suspicion of armed robbery, burglary and grand theft.

The pair reportedly approached the house-sitter at about 7:40 p.m. Monday as she pulled into the garage of a home on 6th Street, half a block from the beach. Police said the 15-year-old pointed what later was identified as a starter’s pistol at the woman’s head and said: “Give me the keys, or I’ll shoot you.”

A patrol car stopped a 1986 Buick, which had been reported stolen, a short time later on Sepulveda Boulevard. The younger suspect reportedly pulled the pistol and a screwdriver from his bel1948279150ground, according to Detective Dan Kuhn.

A police dog subdued the suspect after he ignored the officer’s command to freeze. The patrolman handcuffed the other teen-ager.
