Share

An unidentified transient was found dead around dawn Wednesday by the steps of Los Angeles City Hall, police said.

The bearded man, about 60 years old, appeared to have died of natural causes, according to a police report. Two women, both city employees, spotted the man, dressed in a tan jacket, brown shirt and blue pants, lying on his back on the sidewalk at the foot of the Spring Street steps at the west side of City Hall.

A custodian summoned paramedics, who pronounced him dead, according to a city security officer. There was no blanket or bedroll to indicate that the man had been sleeping there when he died, the officer said. A police report said the man was believed to have lived at a Main Street mission. A coroner’s autopsy was pending.
