Local News in Brief : Cunliffe Sues City Atty.
Sylvia Cunliffe, the embattled manager of Los Angeles’ Department of General Services, filed suit Wednesday against City Atty. James Hahn and four of his deputies, asking that they be barred from representing Mayor Tom Bradley and the City Council in disciplinary proceedings against her.
Accused of favoritism and mismanagement, Cunliffe is on a leave of absence while the council considers Bradley’s recommendation to fire her.
In her Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit, Cunliffe alleges that Hahn and his deputies broke the confidentiality of the attorney-client relationship after she met with them over a period of several months last spring, seeking their advice.
A spokesman for Hahn denied the allegation, saying that under the city Charter Hahn’s only client is the city itself. A hearing on Cunliffe’s request is scheduled for Nov. 16.
