Local News in Brief : Robings, President of Oxnard College, to Quit
Oxnard College President Ed Robings will retire in July to work in private industry and write, college officials announced last week.
Robings, 58, had served six years as president of the college, the smallest and youngest of the three schools in the Ventura County Community College District.
Also president of the Oxnard Chamber of Commerce, Robings said he plans to serve out the term of that office, which concludes in September. He said he will continue to live in Ventura County and be involved in civic affairs.
Robings’ announcement followed the resignation last month of another college official, Vice President of Student Services Denise Morgan.
Two college trustees, Tom Ely and Ruth Oren, abstained from accepting Robings’ resignation at a board of trustees meeting Monday because they said they found the timing of the two resignations raised questions about whether the officials had been pressured to leave. Robings later reiterated that his resignation was voluntary.
Robings came to the district in 1981 after serving as an administrator for 19 years at the Los Angeles Community College District. Under his direction, the college built a student cafeteria and an occupational education complex.
As chairman of the college district’s international education committee, he is credited with developing study-abroad programs in France and England.
