Panel to Discuss Village Plans

Share

The Planning and Environment Committee of the City Council will hold a public hearing on Monday to review two plans for limiting growth in Westwood. The meeting will be at 10 a.m. in the City Council chambers in City Hall, Room 340.

Committee members Hal Bernson and Ruth Galanter will meet again on Tuesday at 2 p.m. to vote on the plans. Committee member Michael Woo will be unable to attend the meeting, according to the council clerk.

The plans--the Westwood Village Specific Plan and the Westwood Community Plan--would cut potential development in the area by 50% and would limit growth to 18% over the next 20 years. Both plans have been attacked by a coalition of Westwood homeowner groups for not going far enough in reducing development.

The homeowner groups are holding a town meeting tonight at 8 in the Fairburn Avenue Elementary School auditorium, 1403 Fairburn Ave., to call on Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky to persuade his council colleagues to support stricter growth limits when the plans come before the council for a final vote.
