Share

Clark Regional Park’s third phase of construction will ceremoniously begin Monday at 10 a.m. at a ground breaking to be attended by city officials and the public.

Construction, expected to be completed by May, 1988, includes the transformation of 27 acres of land into three lighted softball fields, a practice field, picnic area, concession building, 200-car parking lot and a pedestrian and equestrian trail.

Before the park’s expansion, the 27-acre site was used as a pit for sand and gravel extraction to be used on freeways and streets in Fullerton.

The first phase of the 87-acre park, at 8800 Rosecrans Ave., was finished in 1979 and the second phase, the Interpretive Center, was completed in 1986.

The $1.9-million project is being funded by the county’s Harbors, Beaches and Parks Department, the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund and 1984 State Bond Act.
