Local News in Brief : CRA OKs State Offices

The Community Redevelopment Agency has given final approval to construction plans for a new state office complex downtown.
The $100-million project, with office towers 16- and 12-stories high, will occupy the northern two-thirds of the block bounded by Spring, Main, 3rd and 4th streets.
The redevelopment agency voted unanimously to approve the construction plans and sale of the three-acre parcel to the Los Angeles State Building Authority, which will own the structure and supervise its construction.
Construction on the building, the largest state facility in California, is expected to start in February, 1988, and be completed by July, 1990. The complex, where nearly 3,000 state employees will work, will feature 12,000 feet of ground floor retail space, a day-care center for state workers’ children, a public cafeteria, an auditorium and a sculpture garden.
