Local News in Brief : City Manager to Retire

Share

After nearly two decades on the job, El Segundo City Manager Arthur Jones has announced he will retire Christmas Day.

Jones, 58, said he is stepping down from the $69,600-a-year post to devote more time to his family and personal interests. City officials said they have not yet chosen a replacement.

During his tenure as city manager, El Segundo grew into a major South Bay employment center as large aerospace and other companies moved to the town’s east side. The growth, in turn, has recently given rise to anti-development sentiments among some residents who contend that Jones and other city officials have allowed commercial development to proceed without planning.
