Buffalo Roam, Seldom in Herd: a Discouraging Word

Share

--Two 1,500-pound buffalo that roamed through Salt Lake City suburbs and farmland for five days have been tranquilized and returned home. The pair broke out of their pens, apparently after deer got into the corral and spooked them, said Brant Jones, whose father, Otto Jones Jr., owns a herd of about 40 buffalo on his South Jordan farm. Trackers lost the bulls, 3 and 4 years old, after two days, Brant Jones said. They turned up near a West Jordan subdivision, but they trampled a chain link fence and lumbered away before they could be caught. “They just looked at that fence and went right through it,” said Officer Tim Sessions. Finally, a family member spotted the animals and shot them with tranquilizer darts.
