More Than 200 to Hit the Off-Road in 20th Running of Baja 1,000 Race

Hordes of trucks, cars and motorcycles will take off across the desert early this morning, racing more than 700 road-less miles in the Presidente Sauza SCORE Baja 1,000.

It is the 20th anniversary of this off-road race, the event that gave birth to the sport. This Baja 1,000 has attracted an international field of more than 200 competitors who will race over a course in the northern portion of Baja California.

Drivers may be diverted around sections of the course that run over dry lake beds, since a week of intermittent rain has rendered much of the course a muddy, soggy mess, unusual for this test of stamina--for both driver and machine.

The race will end Saturday afternoon, about 30 hours after the start.
