‘Global Glue Is Up to Us’

When I read “ ‘Four 25s’ Equal a Way to Cut Deficit in Half” (Op-Ed Page, Nov. 1), I thought, “Boy! There is someone with the right idea.” Then I looked to see who wrote it. It was Lee Iacocca, of course.

I came to Los Angeles in February, 1929, before the market crash. It took years to overcome the hardships of that era, when a hamburger cost 15 cents and we didn’t have a dime. Let’s kill the deficit now, before it kills us.

At age 80, I’m driving a 1966 Plymouth. It cost about $3,000 in 1966. I wouldn’t buy a new car now. I’ll stick with my 21-year-old car the rest of my life.
