Israeli Pop Singer Hangs Himself in Jail

JERUSALEM —
Israeli pop singer Zohar Argov, 31, committed suicide Saturday by hanging himself with strips of blankets in a jail cell in the Israeli town of Rishon Lezion, police said Sunday.
Argov, who had a history of drug problems, was arrested a week earlier in connection with the rape of a young woman, police said. Argov pioneered a brand of Oriental music that blended modern lyrics with traditional music.
