Times Poll and Taxes
This deficit is bothering me more and more, so I am submitting a solution!
We senior citizens have lived with it a long time and watched it grow so we feel more responsible for it--also we don’t like to be “in debt.”
Why couldn’t Social Security recipients volunteer to have a certain amount ($10-$15) deducted from their monthly check to reduce the deficit? We might become so enthused we’d give more if it became a national effort. We live in very modest housing, have two (older) cars, plenty to eat, etc.--but still don’t really need the extra little we could donate. Yet, we have friends who really don’t need the money who think my idea is dumb! It takes all kinds, but Americans are pretty generous and can be swept up in a cause that becomes universal.
Easy bookkeeping--simply mark the amount on the corner of a “givers” record and deduct that amount.
