Cudahy : Colon Recall Petition Filed

Share

A petition to recall Cudahy Councilman Wilfred Colon has been submitted to the city clerk’s office. The city will rule on the petition by Nov. 19. If it is accepted, proponents would have 60 days to collect signatures from 25% of the city’s registered voters--about 779 people--to force a recall election.

One of the backers of the petition is former Planning Commissioner JeneOliver, who has made several unsuccessful attempts to recall Colon since he was elected last year. Oliver said he filed the latest petition because he believes Colon came to office in a fraudulent election.

In a formal rebuttal, Colon charged that the petition’s purpose “is to remove the only Hispanic-American elected official from the Cudahy City Council.” Colon also warned potential petition signers that “signing this petition may subject you to a civil lawsuit for supporting and or practicing racial discrimination.”
