The World : Beirut Airport Blast Kills 6

Share

A briefcase packed with explosives blew up in a crowded passenger terminal at Beirut’s airport, killing six people, including the woman who carried it, and wounding 73 others, including a number of children, police said. The blast occurred a day after the airport reopened following a five-day general strike that had paralyzed the nation’s air traffic. The six killed in the bombing were all Lebanese, a police official said, adding that most of the injured were Lebanese and other Arabs bound for Persian Gulf nations. Police identified the woman who carried the deadly briefcase as Soraya Sahyouni, a Sunni Muslim. Police refused to speculate on a motive behind the attack.
