Anaheim Plans Celebration for Museum’s Debut
The Anaheim Museum reopens Saturday with a “gala celebration” at its new home, the historic Carnegie Building at Anaheim Boulevard and Broadway.
The city has given the 79-year-old Carnegie Building, once home of the main public library, a $563,000 renovation and leased it to the nonprofit museum organization. The museum’s previous facility--a storefront near the Carnegie--closed in September.
The ribbon cutting will take place at 10 a.m., followed by the installation of a time capsule containing 1987 memorabilia.
The celebration, which continues through Sunday , offers musical performances throughout the day, as well as two traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington.
One Smithsonian exhibit is on the history of libraries built with money from industrialist Andrew Carnegie. The other, a history of kite making, provides “hands-on” demonstrations for children.
The museum is also presenting two of its own displays on Anaheim’s agricultural, business, housing and recreational developments during the past century.
Regular operating hours will be Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. For more information, call (714) 778-3301.
