Chrysler Corp. has notified about 3,500 white-collar employees of previously announced plans to have their year-end holidays include permanent layoffs. Chrysler spokesman Douglas E. Nicoll could not confirm reports that another 1,000 salaried workers could be discharged in a second wave of reductions from the No. 3 auto maker’s 38,000 white-collar work force. Nicoll also denied reports that its Kenosha, Wis., plant would be closed.
