Local News in Brief : Developer to Provide a Calabasas ‘Lifeline’
Calabasas residents were promised Thursday night that a landowner will allow 2,000 homes on the west side of the community to join a proposed City of Calabasas.
James Harter, a development manager for the Baldwin Co., said his firm will provide a 200-foot-wide strip to link homes on the east side of Calabasas with those on the west side two miles away.
Harter’s company is seeking to withdraw 1,300 acres of undeveloped ranch land between the two areas from proposed city boundaries. The boundaries will be considered next Wednesday by the Los Angeles County Local Agency Formation Commission.
The promise of the strip came as 250 Calabasas Park homeowners met to debate Baldwin’s proposed 1,500-house project.
The homeowners also voted during the meeting to take over ownership of the 25-acre Calabasas Lake, the centerpiece of the existing 1,300-home Calabasas Park development. The lake has been the property of the Calabasas Park Co., the community’s original developer.
The residents voted after being told that ownership of the lake will give them access to it and control of its water quality, at a cost of about $50 per household per year.
