A Manatee County, Fla., circuit court jury recommended the death sentence for the stepson of Clay Carroll, former pitcher with the Cincinnati Reds.
Frederick Nowitzke, 28, was convicted by the same 12-member jury of two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of his mother and 11-year-old stepbrother, and of the attempted murder of Carroll during a shooting at the Carroll home in Bradenton, Fla., on Nov. 16, 1986.
