Risk of Separation for Illegal Alien Families Under the Amnesty Law

Anyone interested in the real story of Central America should read about Anibal . If this is the kind of “democracy” being supported by the United States, then we have a lot of rethinking to do. This child had never eaten ice cream and never seen a doctor, but had been exposed to more than his share of soldiers, including the ones who murdered his father.

In this supposedly superior way of life, a discarded tin can becomes a treasured drinking cup to Anibal’s mother, and a glass of milk for the children a true luxury.

One can only wonder, would a Contra “democracy” be equally beneficent? Or, put another way, could a communist government make life any worse? Certainly there are no easy solutions in countries with a long history of suffering, but we in this country must be careful about using ideological terms to describe them. What do we really mean when we say democracy, and will we support anything that calls itself that?

Anibal’s experience of living in a “free country” has included death, deformity and malnutrition.

There is certainly hope for a better life for all Central Americans in the new peace plan. We fortunate Americans must give substance to that hope by supporting only those forces that address human needs, regardless of what political label they may have.
