County’s Largest Financial Institutions

Share

When it comes to ranking financial-service institutions by size, California is different. And Orange County is even more different. While the nation’s banks have more than twice the assets of the nation’s savings and loans, California-based thrifts have 14% more assets than the state’s banks, according to a bi-annual survey by Sheshunoff & Co., a consulting firm for the banking industry. The difference is even more pronounced in Orange County, where savings and loans have more than a 15-to-1 lead in assets, compared with county-based full-service banks. No full-service county bank was listed among the top 50 banks in the state as of June 30, but nine county thrift concerns made the top 50, led by top-ranked Financial Corp. of America, the Irvine-based holding company for American Savings & Loan.
