Local News in Brief : Deputy Shot by Officer
A Los Angeles County sheriff’s sergeant, wounded last Friday while investigating suspected drug sales at a Compton home, apparently was shot by another officer at the scene, a sheriff’s spokesman said Monday.
Sheriff’s spokesman Bryan Williams said an investigation has determined that Sgt. Larry Crookshanks, 39, head of the narcotics squad at the sheriff’s station in Lynwood, “was probably shot by another officer.” Williams added that a positive identification of the gun suspected of firing the round that wounded Crookshanks has yet to be made.
The name of the officer who apparently shot the deputy was not released.
Crookshanks was wounded in the back and shoulder during a confrontation between authorities and eight people barricaded inside a home in the 800 block of West 156th Street. Deputies said the eight were booked for investigation of possession of narcotics for sale.
Found inside the home were $3,000 in cash, a MAC-10 machine pistol and 25 gallons of a substance believed to be PCP, investigators said.
Crookshanks was reported resting at home.
