Judges Richard A. Paez and Larry P. Fidler have been elected by their colleagues as presiding judge and assistant presiding judge, respectively, of the 84-judge Los Angeles Municipal Court for 1988. They will take office Jan. 4, when Judge George W. Trammell steps down from the court’s top administrative post.

Paez, who served as assistant presiding judge this year, was appointed to the bench in 1981 and has handled criminal, civil and traffic cases. He practiced law with California Rural Legal Assistance, the Western Center for Law and Poverty and the Legal Aid Foundation.

Fidler, now handling criminal misdemeanor trials, was named to the court in 1983 after nine years as a criminal defense lawyer at the firm of Weitzman, Fidler & Re.
