Enrollment in California state, public and community...

Share

Enrollment in California state, public and community colleges has increased steadily from 1984 to 1986. According to the state Department of Finance, the University of California system experienced a 6% increase of 105,779 students to 112,109, which represented the highest enrollment gain. Enrollment at four-year private colleges, however, dropped by 2.6%.

Officials say escalating tuition costs are making the state’s system and community colleges more appealing to California residents. Freshman enrollment is expected to increase 1% to 3% into the next decade when the “baby boom echo” is expected around 1995.

The Times randomly surveyed major colleges/universities and continuing education centers in Southern California. The following profiles were developed to assist students applying for fall ’88 admission. Prospective freshmen are encouraged to utilize available resources at their high schools and local libraries.
