Local News in Brief : City Attorney Gets Raise

Share

The Torrance City Council has approved a substantial pay raise for veteran City Atty. Stanley Remelmeyer, a move that will boost his pension benefits when the longtime official retires late next year.

The council agreed on a 6-1 vote Tuesday night to raise Remelmeyer’s salary to $137,000 a year from $102,048. In exchange, Remelmeyer agreed to stop accepting city-paid health benefits and a monthly car allowance.

The net increase in cost to the city is $18,373.

Remelmeyer, 69, who has served as city attorney for 32 years, said the raise would increase his pension benefits by boosting his base pay during his last year of service. He announced he will retire in November or December of next year.
