Two Soviet refuseniks, both of whom have been waiting 12 years for an exit visa, said they have been given permission to leave. Jewish physicist Yakov Alpert, 76, said Soviet authorities notified him that he and his wife, Svetlana, 46, could emigrate. Alpert said they will go first to Vienna and then decide where to settle. Jewish mathematician Solomon Algeer, 56, said that he also was notified that he, his wife Eva, 52, and their two adult sons could emigrate to Israel. He attributed the surprise move to U.S. pressure and the upcoming superpower summit.
