A journalist who traveled to China despite a Taiwanese government ban and the publisher who sent him have been charged with filing false documents, a district judge said in Taipei. The charges were brought against Lee Yung Deh and Wu Feng Shan, president of the Independence Evening Post. If convicted, the two could face maximum prison terms of three years. Lee went to China with another Post reporter, Hsu Lu, from a reporting trip to Japan. Charges against Hsu were dropped because she was unaware of the plan to go to China when she went to Japan. Lee and Hsu spent 13 days in China and returned to Taipei on Sept. 27.
