Apple & the Frog Ad

Share

One of the great things about Apple Computer is their willingness to depart from the norm and display a spirit of enterprise. This was especially evident in the “frog pathology” ad with high school animal rights advocate Jenifer Graham (“A Frog Advocate Leaps to Prominence,” by Howard Rosenberg, Nov. 9).

But Apple’s management later decided to pull the ad (“Apple Computer’s ‘Frog’ Ad Gets the Ax,” by Howard Rosenberg, Nov. 10). What happened? Several reasons were given, but most likely the controversial response played a big part in that decision.

My question to them is this: if Apple was perceived as taking a stand on classroom dissection, so what? How many of us actually learned anything useful by cutting up a frog in high school? Using computers can make this ancient ritual a positive educational experience.

As we advance technologically, we will evolve away from using real animals anyway. Apple has shown great foresight in riding the crest of this educational wave.
