Stolen Cars

Share

After having read the letter (Oct. 30) on reporting car theft, I felt compelled to write this reply.

I live in the foothills of the North San Fernando Valley, a place where car thieves leave the remains of stolen cars. This angers me and so I reported a Firebird that had been sitting near my home.

First I called the Los Angeles Police Department at the non-emergency number listed in the phone book; they transferred my call to community relations who gave me the number for parking control. After phoning that number three times, finally reached a recording that told me my call would be answered in the order received if I waited on the line. After more than 10 minutes of waiting (I almost gave up) my call was answered by a very obnoxious person who treated me as though I were the thief. She took the report and just hung up on me. Then after about a week the car was removed. However, I passed by the car daily as I went to work and saw it slowly being destroyed. The tires flattened. Headlights and windows smashed.

I now feel very frustrated and that my time was wasted over that situation.
