CANBERRA, Australia —
France exploded a 65-kiloton nuclear device at its underground testing site on Mururoa Atoll in the South Pacific on Friday, Australian scientists said.
The explosion was the most powerful of seven tests this year, officials at the Seismological Center in Canberra said.
There was no immediate confirmation of the test from France.
A 65-kiloton explosion is the equivalent of 65,000 tons of TNT.
