Rams’ Bell Could Be Out for Season

Further X-rays on Ram tailback Greg Bell, recently acquired from Buffalo in the trade that sent Eric Dickerson to Indianapolis, revealed a hairline break in his left shoulder, an injury that could put him out for the rest of the season, the team said Friday.

Bell was injured on his first and only carry in the second quarter of the Rams’ 27-24 win over the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday. Bell lost feeling in his left arm after being hit first by defensive end Bob Clasby and then by linebacker Niko Noga.

Bell initially thought the injury was just a bruise, but he said it wasn’t hard to spot the crack on the X-rays. “It’s a pretty long one,” he said, “On the film, it looked like 4 1/2 inches.”
