Bad INS Experience

Re Ms. French’s complaint in Nov. 1 Letters about her treatment at LAX passport and baggage checks: My daughter and I, along with the rest of a crowded 747, arrived from Hong Kong, Taipei and Tokyo last Saturday and all of us were processed in a courteous, competent fashion, and in the lobby of Bradley Terminal within 20 minutes or less.

However, it is upsetting to find a $1 charge for baskets to carry luggage through customs. We are the only country I’ve been in where this is done. It’s OK to charge us citizens who have U.S. currency, but very bad public relations for foreign tourists who arrive without U.S. dollars.
