Ethiopian rebels said they captured two Italians and three Ethiopians working for a geological company. In a statement, the rebels, who have been fighting Ethiopia’s Marxist government since the early 1970s, said their units abducted the five Nov. 16 in western Gojam province. A spokesman in Sudan for the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Army said the Italians, whom he identified as Salvatore Baroni and Paulo Bellini, were helping to build a road that the Ethiopian army planned to use. Last year, the rebels kidnaped two Italians working on the same project. They were freed in February.
