Dolph W. von Arx, 53, an executive vice president at Thomas J. Lipton Inc., has been named president and chief executive of R. J. Reynolds Tobacco USA, the company’s domestic tobacco operating unit based in Winston-Salem, N.C. Von Arx succeeds Gerald H. Long effective Jan. 1. Long will remain chairman of R. J. Reynolds Tobacco USA and senior executive vice president of parent RJR Nabisco Inc. until his retirement on July 1, 1988.
