Crude oil prices rose 22 cents a barrel in light trading dominated by speculators, and analysts said there was no outside news affecting the market. The January delivery price of West Texas Intermediate, the benchmark U.S. crude, rose to $18.78 per 42-gallon barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, up from $18.56 at the close on Friday. At one point the price rose to $18.97 a barrel, but traders said underlying fundamentals of supply and demand quickly drove the price back down.
